Historical investment calculator: what would your savings have become?

Here you can examine how an investment would have developed over a chosen historical period. Choose a supported index series, a starting amount and any regular deposits. The calculator uses the documented development of the period rather than a fixed annual return.

Price index: dividends are not included, so the value is lower than if dividends were reinvested. Purchases and value use the index value at the end of the month, so market holidays do not matter. 59 purchases, annual costs of 0.5% deducted every month. Tax and brokerage are not included. Historical figures are not a forecast of the future.

Dividends and currency must be handled correctly

A price index describes something other than a total return index, in which dividends are included. The result tells you which series is used. Dividends must not be reinvested again if they are already included in the data.

With foreign investments, currency can affect the return in Danish kroner. The calculation therefore applies the relevant currency at each purchase and at the valuation when the chosen series requires it.

Guide to historical scenarios

Try several start dates

A period that begins just before a fall can look different from a period that begins after it. Try both shorter and longer periods, and look at the development along the way rather than only the final amount.

Understand the chosen purchase pattern

Monthly deposits buy at different historical levels. The calculator shows the rule used for purchase dates and closing days. Costs and tax are only included when the model says so.

Historical figures are not an expectation for the future. An index is not necessarily an investable product without costs either. Use the general investment calculator if you would rather try your own future scenarios. Periods without documented data are not shown as if the history existed.
