Electricity bill calculator: see the total price of your electricity
The spot price is only part of what you pay. The electricity bill can also include grid charges, taxes, a subscription and fees. The calculator adds up the items, so you can see both the total cost and the average price per kWh.
Worked example
- Calculation: Spot price and tariffs
- Consumption: 4,000 kWh
- Price area: West of the Great Belt (DK1)
- Grid company: Don't know (grid tariff not included)
- Supplier markup: 0.10 DKK
- Supplier subscription: 29.00 DKK
The electricity bill
5,268 DKK
1.32 DKK per kWh on average
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Spotpris | 3,905 DKK |
| Energinets tariffer og elafgift | 615 DKK |
| Elselskabets tillæg | 400 DKK |
| Abonnementer | 348 DKK |
The spot price is the average of the last 12 months in DK1 (0.98 DKK per kWh incl. VAT) with even consumption over the day; tariffs at today's rates. Source: Energi Data Service.
The time of use can change the bill
With a variable electricity agreement, the energy price depends on when the electricity is used. Grid tariffs can also vary through the day. The calculator assumes even consumption over the day and shows it as an estimate.
An estimate based on annual consumption and even use is an estimate. It cannot reproduce every payment for a household that uses electricity at other times.
Guide to the items on the electricity bill
Tell fixed and variable costs apart
A price per kWh follows the consumption. A monthly subscription must be paid regardless of the number of kWh. The fixed costs are only spread over the consumption when the average price is calculated.
Example of a total payment
If you use 100 kWh at a total variable price of 2 DKK per kWh including VAT, that part costs 200 DKK. With 30 DKK in fixed payments, the bill is 230 DKK. The effective price is therefore 2.30 DKK per kWh.
Use prices with the same VAT basis. The calculator shows how VAT is handled, so it is not added twice. Compare electricity agreements if you want to find out which supplier items you can change, rather than looking only at the total bill.
